Transport Refrigeration Unit is used to keep the temperature.

In the view of many people, the transport refrigeration unit (TRU) is to cool the goods loaded in the container to required temperature. Actually, TRU is to keep the temperature of the goods, not to lower the temperature. When the air becomes hot due to radiation, conduction, convection in the container, TRU will cools it down and prevent goods from being infiltrated by the heat source.

Precooling is necessary before loading the goods.

Normally, the refrigerated vehicles are parked outside and the temperature inside the container is the same with outside. Such high temperature will definitely has negative effect on the quality of goods, so precool the container to the desired temperature before loading is necessary.

Turn off the transport refrigeration unit while loading and unloading.

It is a rather common yet wrong operation to keep the TRU running while loading/unloading, thinking this will help the temperature rise slowly. If the TRU is on, when the door is opened, the evaporator fan is still in working condition, so it will continue to inhale the hot air from the outside, causing rapid increase of the inside temperature. If the TRU is off, there is no such circulation as the fan is not moving, so the speed for the hot air coming inside is slower.

Place the goods in a proper way for smooth cold air circulation.

Keep smooth cold air circulation in mind while you are placing the goods. Make sure there are at least 23cm distance from the top of the container to the goods. It is recommended to use double-deck pallet for better cold air circulation, especially at the bottom to make sure cold air can reach the bottom of the container. Try to avoid using plastic films on the pallets, which will block the cold air from reaching the goods.

Clean the container of a refrigerated vehicle regularly.

There are two purposes of cleaning the container: one is the keep the environmental hygiene to avoid smelly odor. Second is the prevent evaporator fan from inhaling impurities, which will lead to declining cooling performance.
